TorahTrope is actively maintained. Here is what has changed recently — including fixes for problems people wrote in about.

October 4, 2026

• New  Tapping a word names its trope mark and starts the recording from that word. Until now it only did that with Trope colors switched on — with them off, a tap sent the audio back to the start of the line and said nothing, which is what most people met, since the colours start off. The colours are now purely a display choice: the words are tappable either way.
• Fixed  Tap a word while the recording plays and it should hold for a beat, then start again at that word. On a phone it stopped instead and would not start again: the pause was fine, but the instruction to resume came a moment later, and phones only allow a recording to start from something you just touched. The beat of quiet is now made without stopping the recording at all, so it carries on and the word comes in on time.
• Fixed  Tapping a word named its trope mark, but left no mark on the word itself — the only thing still highlighted was the colour band around the whole phrase, so on a phone it looked as though the phrase had been chosen rather than the word. The tapped word now carries a box of its own, on every device. On a computer the pointer had been doing that job, which is why it only went wrong on phones.

September 20, 2026

• New  Not yet reading Hebrew at chanting speed? Switch on Transliteration, next to Translation, and every verse gets its sound spelled out beneath it — the way the siddur spells it, B'reishit bara Elohim — with the stressed syllable taken from the trope mark itself. Tap a word with the trope colours on and its sound appears with the name of its mark. Settings lets you choose the pronunciation: Israeli, Sephardic, Ashkenazi or the scholars' Tiberian.

September 15, 2026

• New  Every parashah now has its haftarah: the passage from the Prophets with te'amim, the recording, and the text following the chant word by word — the same reader as the Torah portion, so the word taps, the custom range, the colors and the print all work. Open it from the link under the dates on any parashah page, or search for “haftarah Noach”. Where practice differs the page says so: the Sephardic range, the special Shabbat that replaces the regular haftarah this year, which haftarah a double portion takes.
• New  An index of every reading on the site, under All readings in the menu and the footer: the fifty-four portions by book, the festival readings and the Reform split portions on one listing, and the haftarah for each portion on the other.
• Fixed  On a phone, a reading page scrolled itself to the first verse the moment it opened — past the name of the portion, its dates and the aliyah buttons. It now opens at the top, and follows the recording only once it is playing. Keep on your home page is a button under the dates now, where it can be seen.
• New  A date page. Enter any date in either calendar and see the other, the parashah read on that Shabbat with a link to practice it, whatever falls on the day, and when a Hebrew date next comes round. Made for bar and bat mitzvah planning and yahrzeits; one tap keeps the parashah on your home page with the weeks to go.

September 13, 2026

• New  The festival readings after the High Holy Days are here: Sukkot Day 1 and Day 2, Sh'mini Atzeret, and the full Simchat Torah reading — the end of Deuteronomy, the opening of Genesis, and the maftir. They appear in the reading menu on their dates, and when a festival falls on Shabbat, as both do this year, the aliyot follow the Shabbat division. Text and trope for now, like the other holiday readings.
• New  Learning a reading for a date? Open your verses and tap Keep on your home page — the date is filled in from the calendar, or set your own. The home page then shows your parashah at the top with the weeks to go and a Practice button straight to those verses. Cantors and tutors: keep a student's parashah, then Share from that reading and the link carries the date, so the student opens it already set up. It lives only on that device. Once the day has passed the card asks whether you read it; mark it done and it says yasher koach, then clears itself a week later.

September 9, 2026

• New  The blessings, the trope chart and the practice guide can now be printed properly, or downloaded as a PDF to keep and send on. The trope chart fits a single sheet; the blessings carry the Hebrew large enough to read from the page.
• New  The home page now offers to pick up where you left off. Practice a passage and it remembers — the next time you open the site, the reading you were on is waiting at the top, along with the last few before it.
• New  A printable trope chart. Every Torah trope mark on one sheet, grouped from the mark that ends a verse down to the ones that join two words — sized to print on a single page, or save as a PDF for your phone.
• Fixed  Zarka went unnamed. Tapping one gave no answer, and because the coloring marks a phrase boundary at each separating mark, the phrases around every zarka in the Torah were grouped wrongly — 375 of them. The cause was an old confusion in the Unicode standard, where the character named “zarqa” is not the one the Torah uses for zarka.
• Fixed  In the weeks when a festival falls on Shabbat, the reading picker called the next parashah “this week's” — during Rosh Hashanah it pointed ten days ahead to Ha'azinu and called that this week. It now says “Next parashah” and names it, on the five weeks a year when the festival reading takes the Shabbat.
• Fixed  Munach legarmeh — a munach followed by the upright bar — is now named and treated as a separating mark, where before it read as an ordinary joining munach. Geresh muqdam has been removed: it belongs to Psalms, Proverbs and Job, and appears nowhere in the Torah.

September 6, 2026

• New  The text now follows the recording word by word, not just verse by verse. Every one of the 371 aliyot was re-timed to the individual word, so the marker moves with the chant as you listen.
• New  Tap a word and the audio starts from that word — with a moment of silence first, so you have a beat to get ready before it begins. Turn on “Trope colors” to tap words. Previously a tap sent the audio back to the start of the verse.
• Fixed  The line marking the word being chanted appeared as a row of dashes under vowelled text, because the underline broke around every vowel mark. It is a single stroke now.

September 2, 2026

• New  Search by holiday. Typing “Yom Kippur”, “Rosh Hashanah”, or “Simchat Torah” now finds the right reading — previously those pages existed but could only be reached by browsing.
• Fixed  High Holy Day pages showed last year's date. Yom Kippur read “October 2, 2025” instead of the upcoming reading.
• Fixed  The Maftir was missing from every High Holy Day reading. Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur morning were missing their Numbers passage entirely, and Yom Kippur Mincha stopped at verse 21 of a reading that runs to verse 30.
• Fixed  Custom range now always opens at the first verse of the reading, instead of wherever you happened to be.
• Fixed  The row of buttons at the top no longer squeezes together when a reading is open.
• Improved  You can now type a reading the way it appears in the address bar — “ha-azinu”, “sh-lach” — as well as “Genesis chapter 5”.

• New  A guide: How to practice Torah trope. What the te'amim marks actually do, a six-step practice method, and answers to the questions students ask most.
• New  Every parashah page now opens with a short summary of what the portion covers.

August 26, 2026

• New  A feedback form, linked from the top of every page. Every message is read.
• Fixed  The footer no longer sits underneath the audio player, where the last lines were unreadable.

August 25, 2026

• Improved  The passage search understands how people actually type. “Noah”, “parashat Ki Tavo”, “chayei sarah” and near-miss spellings all find the right reading now.
• Fixed  Typing a reading and tapping Go on a phone no longer reports that it could not be found.

August 18, 2026

• New  Tap any word to jump the audio to that point — useful for drilling one phrase over and over.
• Fixed  Downloading a clip failed for several days with “Failed to fetch”. Fixed, and downloads now report honestly when something goes wrong.

August 17, 2026

• New  Share copies a link to exactly the verses you are looking at.
• New  A privacy page setting out what is and is not collected. No accounts, no cookies, no advertising.
• Improved  Verse numbers now sit inline with the text, and the lines between verses are gone.
• Improved  Printing in consonants-only mode now looks like a scroll — no verse numbers, no rules.

August 16, 2026

• New  Find a passage. Type a reference like “Deuteronomy 21:10-21”, or tap through book, chapter, and verses — and land on exactly those verses.
• New  Play and download any verse range, not just a whole aliyah. The audio is trimmed to the verses you chose.
• New  V'Zot HaBerachah, the 54th portion, read on Simchat Torah.
• Improved  New Hebrew face (Keter YG), so the trope marks render in their correct shapes.
• Improved  Per-verse audio timing across all 371 aliyot, so the text follows the recording as it plays.
